Inclusion for Students with Behavior Disorders Spencer County Public Schools

 Comprehensive program that incorporates positive behavior supports.  Scientifically-based research practices and interventions  PASS program students are educated in the inclusive setting (general education setting)  PASS is a framework for managing the behavior of students identified as EBD or displaying high-risk behaviors

 An individualized approach based on teaching behavioral expectations primarily in the mainstream setting  PASS encourages positive learning environments and teaches behavioral skills  Combines targeted and intensive social skills instruction with behavior monitoring/ coaching for the student and classroom teacher  Bottom line is that it is an intervention that relies on data to drive decisions

 Academic and behavioral success  Dignity and respect  Collaboration team efforts  Helping students develop adaptive and socially acceptable behaviors  The student is provided a reasonable chance to succeed  Uses “best practices” in research in areas of behavior disorders, inclusion, and positive behavior supports

 Developed by special education teacher and a psychologist in mid 1990’s.  District wide programming was developed for Houston, TX school district.  In 2007, CKSEC began projects with 5 schools using the PASS program.  By 2010, CKSEC extended PASS participation to 34 schools.  PASS is now implemented in 45+ districts and 150+ schools in Kentucky.

 1. Identify student with behavior concerns.  2. Meet with team to discuss interventions.  3. Implement interventions  Collect data (discipline, attendance, grades, etc.)  Data based decision making  4. Meet with team to discuss interventions that were tried and data that was collected.  5. Committee comes to a decision about next interventions and decision is made to go/ not go into the PASS program.

 PASS Color Code Monitoring Behavior is Acceptable Warning: Behavior is unacceptable. Student has been given warning and compliance is expected in 1- 2 minutes. Behavior is continues to be unacceptable after reasonable period of time to comply. Bonus: Student has performed above and beyond Expectations.

 With the assistance from highly trained staff, the goal is to educate behavior students in the general education classroom so they may be able to learn, demonstrate, and continually practice the crucial skills required to be a productive citizen of society.
