\ U.S. Academic Exchange Programs

WHAT ARE EXCHANGES AND THEIR BENEFITS? The U.S. Department of State sponsors multiple non-degree programs for educational, cultural, and professional exchanges across the world Participants acquire or further develop: valuable academic and professional skills a new academic and professional network leadership skills personal enrichment a greater understanding of the complexities of the world around them new knowledge of foreign cultures and strengthening of international relationships

BUT IT MEANS I WILL BE MANY, MANY KILOMETERS AWAY. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? Leaving the familiar behind and plunging into the unknown is not easy. It shows a commitment to understanding other people and cultures and to learning about the world in a way that books, school assignments, and a professional career can never reveal You are not alone: before, during, and after your program! Your program and your American home institution work together to provide you the tools for a successful experience Experience building new friendships, taking responsibility for yourself, respecting differences, and tolerating the beliefs of others. And while exploring and learning about the lives of others, discover new aspects of yourself

MORE EXCHANGE EXPERIENCE BENEFITS Whether you live with a host family or on campus, you temporarily become part of your new environment and, in process, you become aware of the inner concerns, hopes, and dreams of a family, a neighborhood or city, a nation, and global community. And with this realization comes the corresponding knowledge of what it means to belong to your own particular country and culture Join an exclusive alumni network and be the drive for change in your field of study, community, country, and beyond upon your return home

U.S.-FUNDED ACADEMIC EXCHANGES FOR BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA High-school, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and professional level exchanges Most fields of study are eligible. Participants study, conduct research, teach, or pursue combined university teaching and research at U.S. institutions Length varies: one academic semester to a full academic year Scholarships are open, merit-based, awarded competitively, and are subject to availability of funds
