11 Kazuhiro Yamamoto Institute for Cosmic Ray Research The university of Tokyo Current status (Toshiba, ELiTES, Baffle, Brittleness of Maraging, Cryogenic duct) KAGRA cryogenic payload meeting 29 August 2012

2 Toshiba We (Suzuki, Kimura, Koike, Takahashi, Tokoku, Yamamoto) visited Toshiba Keihin Product Operations on the 23rd of August (Thursday).

3 Toshiba So huge vacuum chamber for cryostat !

4 Toshiba So huge vacuum chamber for cryostat !

5 Toshiba Proposal for new experiment In this autumn, there will be cooling test of shileds in Toshiba. We suspend something without heat link inside shield to check the effect of radiation (and DLC coating) on the initial cooling time. We monitor the temperature of something in shiled during cooling test. What is something ? Sample 1 : Sapphire and metal hollow sphere Sample 2 : Dummy payload (hollow masses)

6 Toshiba Schedule of cooling test and other experiments in Toshiba Keihin Product Operations Middle of October 1st cryostat : Sapphire and metal hollow sphere Middle of Novemeber 2nd cryostat : Measurement of vibration of shield (Luca Naticchioni and Dan Chen) Middle and end (?) of December 3rd and 4th cryostat : Dummy payload

7 1st general meeting : 3rd and 4th of Oct European Union delegation in Japan and Sanjo conference hall (Hongo campus) Registration Now, the program is announced ! ELiTES

8 1st day (Europa House): 09:00-10:00 registration 10:00-15:30 Introductory session 10:00-10:30 Welcome talks by local and EU authorities (2x15' ? TBD) 10:30-10:50 ELiTES project: Description, targets and timeline 10:50-11:20 Initial detectors achievements 11:20-11:40 Coffee break / Discussion 11:40-12:10 Advanced detectors status report and future scenario 12:10-12:40 KAGRA project: status report 12:40-14:30 Lunch / Discussion ELiTES

9 1st day (Europa House): 14:30-15:00 Einstein Telescope (ET) project 15:00-15:30 KAGRA and ET, focus on the common points: underground and Cryogenics 15:30-16:00 Coffee break 16:00-18:00 WP3 Session (Underground Infrastructures & Sites) 18:30 Reception 2nd day (Tokyo University): 10:00-13:00 WP1 Session (Cryogenics and suspensions) 14:30-17:30 WP2 Session (Mirror thermal noise and cryogenics) 17:30-18:00 Conclusions and next steps ELiTES

10 Baffle 10 Baffle for large angle scattering in cryostat Optimal shape : T. Akutsu Reflection (1.5*10 -8 ) Transmission Mirror side With DLC coating Preliminary result

11 Brittleness of Maraging Sekiguchi, Sakakibara, Yamamoto checked brittleness of maraging at low temperature. After maraging was cooled by liquid nitrogen, it was hit with hummer. But it was never broken.

12 Cryogenic duct Y. Sakakibara’s paper was accepted by Classical and Quantum Gravity.
