Health Professional Shortage Areas –HPSAs Population HPSAs A geographic area will be designated as having a shortage of primary medical care physicians for population type HPSAs if three criteria are met. County Level Census Tract Level

Health Professional Shortage Areas –HPSAs Population HPSAs Criteria 1 The area must be rational for the delivery of primary medical care services. A Rational Service Area is defined as an area that is socio economically, ethnically homogeneous, and defined by contiguous census tracks, or within a whole county for whole county designations.

Population HPSAs Criteria 2 The Following Conditions must prevail: 1.Reside in an area in that is rational for the delivery of primary medical care services as defined in the Federal code of regulations 2. Have a ratio of persons in the population group to number of primary care physicians* practicing in the area and serving the population group ratio of at least 3,000:1 * Primary Care Providers accepting Medicaid and SFS Family Medicine, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Health Professional Shortage Areas –HPSAs

Population HPSAs Criteria 3 Primary medical care professionals in contiguous areas are over utilized, excessively distant, or inaccessible to the population of the area under consideration Health Professional Shortage Areas –HPSAs
