How is deviance learned?
The theory that individuals learn deviance in proportion to the number of deviant acts and norms to which they are exposed
1. The ratio of deviant to nondeviant individuals 2. The significance of the person acting deviantly 3. The age of the exposure
The theory that society creates deviance by identifying particular members as deviant
Only occasional breaking of norms
Deviance that becomes a lifestyle and part of the individual’s identity. (Stigma is an undesirable label used by others to deny the deviant full social acceptance)
