Perkins funding made a difference at our college by: Financial support of Career Services Coordinator Providing career and employment related services to CTE students In-class presentations to CTE programs, workshops, labor market information, Career Center services Job seeking skill development for CTE students: resume building, job searches, interview skills Modernization of Electronics Engineering Technology instructional lab Compact/combined Electronic Laboratory instruments: DC meter, electronic volt- ohm meter, sine/square wave generator, AD/DC power supply Dual-trace digital storage oscilloscopes Electricity and Electronics Training System modules Communications Transmission Lines Training modules

Our college’s best practice using Perkins funds is: Career Services Coordinator Assist in liking secondary and post secondary programs through Partnerships with Onslow County Schools (OCS) CTE programs Career orientation to various OCS students: targeted CTE students, STEM programs, and at-risk populations Presentation of resources via College social media, workshops, new student orientation Presentation of instructional resources presented to at new faculty orientation Providing services for special populations in CTE programs – 482 student served through 33 In-class presentations, workshops, Career Center Service, labor market information Development of internship partnerships for hospitality, culinary, automotive and collision repair

We strengthened the academic, career and technical skills of our students by: Mandatory testing for all CTE programs and developmental course sequencing Early alert communication protocol implemented when a CTE students’ performance becomes cause for academic concern Related (General Education) course expectations are standard for all programs of study Free tutoring available: Math Lab, Writing Lab, Academic Studies Center Faculty Advising Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) ACA 111 College Student Success course incorporated into CTE programs of study and concepts integrated into technical courses

We linked career and technical education at the secondary level with career and technical education at the postsecondary level: College-High School Liaison: spends majority of time in high schools, promoting possible career pathways Joint information sessions for CCCC and OCS counselors Dedicated CCCC academic counselor visits with CTE instructors and students, assists with program completion requirements, facilitates HS to community college transition CCCC CTE faculty serve on OCS CTE Program Advisory Committees Review of course blueprints, curriculum alignment and articulation opportunities; pathway models prepared for Electronics Engineering Technology and Culinary Arts; Hospitality Management in process Direct marketing of Career and College Promise, CTE opportunities to high school juniors and seniors Career Services Coordinator: student tours, career and networking events, orientation sessions for CTE, HS Equivalency and AHS students

We provided students with strong experience in, and understanding of all aspects of an industry by: Advisory Committee membership includes key local industry representatives; validate program of instruction Field trips as identified by each program area Annual Onslow County Job Fair, sponsored by CCCC Career Center Career Center supports students seeking career transition with salary information, employment outlook statistics Career Services Coordinator assists CTE students with job searches, resume writing, mock interviews, job referrals, placement of graduates Career Services Coordinator participated in events to develop networking opportunities for CTE students: MCCS Safety Expo, MCCS Education Expo, MCCS National Education Expo, Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, CCCC Branching Out event

4. We developed, improved, or expanded the use of technology in career and technical education by: Instructional Technologist provides training for CTE faculty: one-on-one, workshops, in-service training Instructional Technology Committee meets quarterly to identify instructional needs, assists in preparing and presenting in-service training sessions Online Instructors’ Academy developed; first offering Summer 2016 Fall (2-day), Spring (1-day) in-service workshops for faculty and staff for instruction with technology and teaching techniques Instructors’ Academy for full and adjunct instructors Computer literacy competencies incorporated in all CTE programs High tech simulation manikins in allied health programs Distance learning training sessions Online Instructors Roundtable Student development of digital resumes via QR code or website

5. We provided professional development by: Utilization of cohort concept for limited enrollment CTE programs to integrate academic and technical course instruction Instructors’ Academy for adjunct and full time faculty Professional development activities are identified by faculty, department heads, advisory committee members to stay current with emerging trends using various methodology of delivery Desktop Audit: annual review of all CTE programs analyzing student performance, completion rates, licensure testing, competency performance student engagement strategies, and improvement plans, as needed Career Services Coordinator completed 120 hour Career Development Facilitator certification training Trades Day: co-sponsored by local Chamber of Commerce, East Carolina Workforce Development Board, NC Works, Onslow County Schools, Onslow County Homebuilders Association, local businesses

6. We developed and implemented evaluations of our career and technical education programs by: Year-end data compiled and organized by Institutional Effectiveness, provided to each Department Head Annual Desktop Audit review sessions with VP for Instruction, VP for IE, Department Head, Division Chair Review of Core Indicators and Perkins Performance Standards Student evaluation of instructors (Program) Completer Surveys (in conjunction with Application for Graduation) Early Leaver Surveys Identification of other accommodation strategies to support special populations

7. We initiated, improved, expanded, and modernized quality career and technical education programs, including relevant technology by: Department Head and Division Chair evaluate technology needs within each CTE program that require upgrade or modernization; document and develop timeline within annual Desktop Audit Budget Oversight Committee utilizes needs identified in annual Desktop Audit to prioritize upgrades and plans for implementation Focus for the funds: Electronic Engineering Technology lab modernization and expansion Evaluate student performance through utilization of new and modernized technology through capstone courses and course competencies Review student survey data, Instructor Evaluation forms, program Completer surveys, Early Leaver surveys

8. We provided services and activities that are of sufficient size, scope, and quality to be effective as evidenced by: Year-end data compiled and organized by Institutional Effectiveness, provided to each Department Head Annual Desktop Audit review sessions with VP for Instruction, VP for IE, Department Head, Division Chair. Review of all CTE programs analyzing student performance, completion rates, licensure testing, competency performance, student engagement strategies, and improvement plans, as needed Review of student employment rates, Employer Satisfaction Surveys Annual review of program curriculum standard and program courses by Division Chair and Department Heads for each CTE program

9. We provided activities to prepare special populations students who are enrolled in CTE courses by: Coordinator for Disability Support dedicated to assist students needing special accommodations Beginning of each semester, provides each instructor with customized letter for each student eligible for special accommodations, outlining strategies to support the student and promote student success Academic tutoring and support is available (Math Lab, Writing Lab, Academic Studies Center) Peer Assisted Study Sessions Provided assistance AHR, BASIC Skills, High School Equivalency students with transition to CTE programs WIOA or child care assistance recipients participate in monthly advising and support sessions Provides assistance to aid retention and employment preparation Participation in county-wide events: Veterans Resource Fair, Special Population/Disability Fair, Stand Down for Homeless Vets Transition to Employment Program for special populations transitioning from HS Brain Injury Trauma Support Group (CCCC campus) County-wide Job Fair highlighting local employment opportunities

Closing Thoughts Preparation of the Local Plan and Evaluation for use of Perkins Funds provides the opportunity to reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of CTE programs, resources, services and high school to community college transition strategies Efforts of continuous quality improvement allows all sectors to strive for CTE student success
