Personal Preparedness Worksite Wellness Lesson Funding provided by Delta Regional Authority Worksite Wellness Challenge Grant

Objectives of Lesson Participants will be able to identify local hazards. Participants will be able to prepare a personal preparedness plan. Participants will be able to identify items needed for a disaster supply kit.

Hazard Assessment Have participants form groups of 3-4 people each. Groups will then identify hazards, natural and man-made, that threaten their workplace. Have the groups share their responses.

Why Prepare? Reduce fear, anxiety, and losses that accompany disasters. Communities, families, and individuals should know what to do in the event of a fire and where to seek shelter during a tornado. They should be ready to evacuate their homes and take refuge in public shelters and know how to care for their basic medical needs.

List at least 15 important items that you would want to include in your personal preparedness kit. Compare your list to the list on the handout.

Emergency Kit Preparedness Kit: Important family documents Water - 1 gallon/person/day Food – Three servings/person/day First Aid Kit Hygiene products Flashlights + extra batteries Candles + matches in waterproof container Cash Paper/Pencils/Activities for kids Blankets Pet food Prescription medicines Baby formula/baby food
