The First Israelites Ch 3,1

Who were the Israelites? 1400 B.C. – Israelites built a kingdom in Canaan (near Med. Sea) Today: Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan language = Hebrew Religion= Judaism Believed in one god =Monotheism first to believe in 1 god First part of the Hebrew bible = Torah

From Canaan to Egypt Believed God told Abraham to leave Mesopotamia and go to Canaan Promised the land belonged to them Lived in Canaan for 100 years. Drought=no water=no food. Moved to Egypt to survive

An Egyptian Pharaoh(King) enslaved the Israelites. To prevent a rebellion, all baby boys were thrown into the Nile River. Moses’s mom put him in a basket to save him. Moses: Israelite, raised by the Pharaoh 1290 B.C - Got a message from God telling him to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt and back to Canaan.

( You do not have to copy these) The Bible says that God sent 10 plagues to Egypt. 1. Water to Blood 2. Frogs 3. Gnats or Lice 4. Flies 5. Livestock Diseased 6. Boils 7. Thunder and Hail 8. Locusts 9. Darkness 10. Death of the firstborn

The Promised Land It took 40 years to get back to Canaan Moses never lived to see the Promised Land. When they arrived, the Canaanites were living there. They fought and beat the Canaanites finally regaining the promised land in 1125 B.C.
