The Proposed NHC/WFO Collaborative Watch/Warning Tool Shannon White Matt Belk Pablo Santos

Background Allow for an easier TCV creation process for NHC –Would allow for the VTEC actions to match those of the WFOs (conference action 10-40) –Hopefully limits the need for post-issuance corrections –Can provide watch/warning info for NHC public text products. –Can be linked to current NHC graphics generation software. Allows for prototyping a new tropical cyclone storm surge watch/warning product –To include new VTEC codes, or variations of existing codes. Advancing the discussion toward the development of a NHC/WFO Collaborative Watch/Warning Process. –This issue has not moved beyond the discussion phase.

What Has Been Accomplished? In June, a preliminary prototype was developed and briefed to NHC personnel An agreement was made to move forward with the development of a prototype. If sucessful NHC would test internally (when will depend on NHC internal resources) Storm surge unit provided GIS resources to develop the necessary shapefile Work will continue next week to further the prototype Possible test of prototype next season internally but again depending on NHC resources.
