The Florida Standards: What Every Parent Should Know Mr. Michael Hernandez, Principal Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School

Where can you find testing resources? What are the Florida Standards? What is the design of both the FSA ELA & Math Assessments? When will students in Florida / Pinellas County take the FSA? Intended Outcomes:

Improving Instruction Today; Preparing for Tomorrow Resource: Khan Academy

New FSA Standards Prepare Students The Florida Standards will prepare students for both college and the workplace. They emphasize higher-order skills and have been influenced by internationally-benchmarked standards, ensuring that our students are prepared to be competitive in the global job market. College Ready Ready for credit bearing course work upon entrance into college Career Ready Ready for a job that provides a salary to support a family of 4 with benefits & opportunity for promotion (not poverty level job)

Florida chose to include more standards than those outlined in Common Core State Standards The Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) will measure student mastery of the newly adopted Florida Standards through a variety of item types How are Florida Standards different from Common Core?

What is Different about the Florida Standards Assessments? Assesses the higher expectations of the Florida Standards Emphasizes analytical thinking Provides a more authentic assessment through a variety of item formats Increased complexity of texts Focus on foundational math skills and application in real-world situations Increased focus on justifying and presenting results and methods Critical reading and writing infused across all curricular areas Re-ordering of math content to reflect research-based path to college and career readiness

Florida Standards Assessment Format w.FLDOE.org © 2014, Florida Department of Education.
