© Crown copyright 2007 The Inclusion Development Programme (IDP) aims to: narrow the gap between those who have SEN and the overall school population focus on attainment and progress across all five outcomes of the ECM Change for Children agenda

© Crown copyright 2007 The IDP will: increase the level of confidence and expertise of practitioners, teachers, support staff and trainee teachers in meeting the needs of high incidence SEN in mainstream settings strengthen whole-school/setting leadership support for SEN and disabilities in its first year, raise the awareness of school staff regarding signs of dyslexia, other specific learning difficulties and communication difficulties support teachers, other school staff and trainee teachers across all phases, in developing effective strategies for learning and teaching for pupils with SEN provide guidance about inclusive pedagogy and how to respond to common classroom challenges

© Crown copyright 2007 The four-year programme During the initial stage of the IDP the focus will be on dyslexia, and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) since the ability to communicate is fundamental to children’s learning and progression In the years to follow, the focus will be on autistic spectrum disorder (ASD); behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD); and moderate Learning difficulties (MLD)

© Crown copyright 2007 The IDP The programme draws upon existing materials and guidance produced by the National Strategies and on a range of other resources to ensure that practitioners can easily draw on existing research and pedagogy in terms of ‘what works’ for all children when planning for children with SEN. To ensure that the IDP draws on the best of what is available the National Strategies are working closely with specialists from the voluntary sector and other Children’s Services partners.

© Crown copyright 2007 The materials The programme will operate to a cascade CPD model, with LAs ensuring that CPD permeates across all settings All schools and early-years settings will be able to access tailored CPD materials designed to support their work with children with SEN and disabilities A range of blended learning approaches will be used Many of the key materials will also be available on the Internet
