Service-Learning Experience Enrique Arellano BEEP 4384 Dr. Amaro

I learned a great amount of useful information that will come in handy when it comes to having my own classroom. Service learning also showed me how much we can do for the community, not only educating our children but also our community. The Experience!

The Beginnings Through this experience I got the opportunity to work with wonderful, brilliant and talented students. One of the first students that I work with was Roberto. He is a very smart boy who followed all instructions given and has a great appetite for learning. It was awesome working with him!

Concepts Concepts from the class that are research based were put into hands on through the service learning. A great way to approach a child’s education and to have a better impact in their lives.

Safe Environment Creating a safe and sheltered environment in the classroom its crucial. Students expose themselves to new things and are not afraid to express themselves when there’s a feeling of safety. Building that relationship through this experience helped me understand a little bit more on how to create a great environment.

Student-Teacher Relationship The Service learning also provided me with that experience. Building that relationship with the student is very important. Once its built, more learning occurs.

Academics Through the Service learning we gave a lot to our community. The Whole purpose for this service learning was to provide our kids in need, specially those that English is their second language the basic skills or that extra push for them to be successful in school. Academics was the main focus. Helping children with different types of literacy was great!

Educational Games Creating games and using them with our kiddos in this semester was a great experience. My students go to have fun while they were learning. I love academic games, and so do the students!!!

Parents Parental Involvement is extremely important. You can do a lot more when you have the parents on your side. Getting the parents to be involved in their child’s education can be a difficult task. I’ve learned how to communicate with parents to get them involved in their children’s education through this great experience.

At the end… The purpose as an educator is always to give your best to the students and to give them that gift of an Education both in English and Spanish. Thanks to the Service-learning now I now more than before. I’m ready for my own classroom. Mil Gracias a la Dra. Amaro por el gran conocimiento que nos obsequia para nuestro futuro. Todo sea por el futuro de nuestros niños, !Vivan los Niños¡
