Thailand By Arlee Skelton

Modern humans first settled the area that is now Thailand about 100,000 years ago. They immigrated into Southeast Asia and began inventing new technology, (watercrafts, fishing tools, farming techniques) they began a small settlement that developed the first Kingdoms. Regional rulers divvied up resources and land, but all were displaced when the Thai people immigrated into the area from southern China. Around the 10th century A.D. ethnic Thais invaded the Khmer empire and establishing the Sukhothai Kingdom. The History of Thailand

Their rival the Ayutthaya subjecting the Sukhothai and dominating most of southern and central Thailand. In 1932, the military forces transformed the country into a constitutional monarchy. Formerly called Siam, the country was officially renamed Thailand in 1939 The current monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, came to the throne in Since 1973, power has moved from military to civilian hands repeatedly.
