All Summer in a Day Answer

1. What word choices does the author use to describe the rain 1. What word choices does the author use to describe the rain? How do these word choices make you feel?   It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the drum and gush of water, with the sweet crystal fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands. A thousand forests had been crushed under the rain and grown up a thousand times to be crushed again. And this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus

2. Infer the main conflict in the story, what kind of conflict is it? Man vs. nature The sun only comes out once every seven years

3. Identify an example of figurative language the author used to describe the sun. How does that figurative language example make you feel? A hyperbole example would be that the sun was a coin large enough to by the world with

4. What are some physical character traits of Margot 4. What are some physical character traits of Margot? Infer the cause of these traits Margot looked like she has been lost in the rain for years. She is pale, frail, and looks like a washed out photograph.

5. Identify an example of figurative language to describe what Margot looks like. How does this description make you feel?     A simile to describe Margot would be Margot looked like a old washout photograph.

  6. Infer what causes the other students ( including William) to not like Margot. The other students are jealous because Margot remembers the sun and might be going back to earth

7. Describe the initiating event of the story. The rain starts to slacken

8. Describe the climax of the story. The sun comes out!!!!

9. What figurative language and/or word choices does the author use to describe the sun coming out? How do these words make you feel? It was the color of flaming bronze and it was very large. And the sky around it was a blazing blue tile color. And the jungle burned with sunlight as the children, released from their spell, rushed out, yelling into the springtime. "Now, don’t go too far," called the teacher after them. "You’ve only two hours, you know. You wouldn’t want to get caught out !“ But they were running and turning their faces up to the sky and feeling the sun on their cheeks like a warm iron; they were taking off their jackets and letting the sun burn their arms.

10. Describe the falling action of the story. One of the students cupped a signal raindrop in her hand

11. Infer how the students felt about what they did to Margot 11. Infer how the students felt about what they did to Margot. What were your clues? The students felt bad that they locked Margot in the closet. My clues were; one girl yelled, ”where is Margot” All of the students look at each other then looked down They all walked slowly to the closet

12. What was the theme to the story? The lesson the author wants to the reader to learn is think before you act. People can do some really mean things out of jealousy.

13. Infer the genre of this story. What were your clues? All Summers in a Day is science fiction. My clues were; The story takes place on Venus The story takes place in the future
