Exclusion Exclude or not to exclude, that is the argument (2012) ‘I’m not talking about kids with identified additional needs, but pupils who indulge in acts of violence. A particular problem is looked after and accommodated children who seem impossible to exclude’ General Secretary of Scottish Secondary Teachers Association The overall exclusion rate in 2010/2011 for looked after children were 326 per 1,000 for looked after children, compared with 40 exclusions per 1,000 pupils for all school children. Edinburgh University (2013) researched the relationship between school exclusion and later outcomes for young people; it revealed that a child who is excluded from school by the age of 12 is four times more likely to end up in prison by the time they reach age 22.

Children’s Hearing System Could it be better?.

Children’s Hearing System In 2011 research 50% of children and young people were in a state of anxiety before their children’s hearing (SCRA 2011, page 13) In a 2011 study 55% of children and young people said they felt negative feelings during their children’s hearings. (SCRA 2011) Children and young people often do not look forward to their children’s hearings. 50% of participants in SCRA Report could not give an example of a children’s hearing that went well (SCRA 2011, page 24)

Why don’t we ask each young person the way they would like their meeting to be held? Are we creating a positive culture where young people can look forward to their Children’s Hearings? Are we doing enough to challenge any negative comments made towards young people?
