Skills and products portfolio an overview Lorenzo Martinelli – Business Development Contact:

a+i engineering a+i : Analysis and Integration a+i recalls our strengths: analytical and model based design methods, integrated development processes and tool chains. Based on our core competence Systems Engineering we provide solutions and services for: Development and integration of complex and safety critical systems. Modelling of systems (hardware and software integration in a virtual environment, functional models, real time models). Definition and improvement of development processes and engineering tools. a+i

We care about the communication with our customers We provide fit for purpose and sustainable solutions that are maintainable We are very good techies but we never forget the business reality We produce solutions based on the evolution of running systems We analyze tasks with methodical and analytical approaches without being restricted by previous solutions a+i 5 things about us

General Expertise We develop and verify embedded systems where predictable and highly reliable operation is essential. We master requirements management from large to small and we know how to correlate to budgets (design to cost). We describe systems and processes by means of modelling languages. We produce simulations with system and component models, with the functionality to integrate large data, software and hardware. We develop tools and interfaces between engineering platforms. We make knowledge usable. We manage our projects to meet cost, time and quality. a+i Embedded systems = technologies integrating electronic and software with mechanical and electrical parts in order to perform a dedicated function

Reference applications Control system for the clearance between the turbine blades and the turbine casing of a jet engine. The development has been sold to an OEM. Involved in the development where four companies located in three different countries. The development involved definition of system architecture and specification of component and control algorithms, as well as development of system and component models. Jet engine control functions (Engine Starting, Shutdown, Thrust Reverser, Box Management, Data Communication...), with involvement of OEM, supplier of Control Electronics and Software and suppliers of actuators and sensors. Whole engine simulation model of a large turbo-prop engine as per OEM specifications. The model is used for design validation and verification in software and hardware in the loop set-ups and for flight training simulators. Flight control and autopilot algorithms for unmanned aerial vehicles with fault detection and accommodation for safe and failure robust operation. Simulation model configuration and parametrization tools and databases for integrated automotive system simulations. Provision of team collaboration platforms for active knowledge acquisition. a+i

Specific Expertise System Development practice We focus on applications that demand safety, security, or business integrity. We are experts in requirement engineering and we comply with the latest regulations (i.e. system ARP4754a, software DO-178, hardware DO-254 and automotive standard ISO ). Our knowledge covers classic requirement waterfall approach and use of general-purpose modelling languages as UML and SysML. We work at all level of integration. We provide project management support to organizations running the development of technology products with co-located or distributed teams. a+i

Specific Expertise Control and Monitoring Systems We develop control and monitoring systems for applications where safety, robustness and system integrity are essential. We integrate systems in mechanical and electrical solutions operating in harsh environments. We design algorithms for system diagnostic and prognostic in order to run condition-based maintenance on the system. Physical Processes We implement and monitor physical processes (i.e. thermodynamic, fluid and flow processes) by mean of software and hardware. We provide models to validate via simulation the performances of the process. a+i

Specific Expertise Modelling / Simulation We are experts in the development of Matlab/Simulink solutions, including design, validation, verification, configuration management and maintenance of complex Simulink models. We deliver component models, from high fidelity to generalized representations of actuators (valves, pumps), sensors, processes and control laws. We link models with other tools and codes and operate them during the system life cycle. We run simulations for specific analysis or configure automated virtual tests with inputs driven by models, hardware or external data sets. Our simulations enable early concept validation by virtual testing and reduce and de-risk integration and testing efforts. a+i

Specific Expertise Gas Turbine We own detailed knowledge of gas turbines and sub-systems and are expert in turbine control systems. We define system functions like signal validation, control laws, fault and exceedance detection and accommodation and the relative software and hardware requirements. We develop engine performance and sub-system models and integrate those in real-time simulations. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Whole system architecture and design, requirements management, mission simulation and analysis, development of control, autopilot and monitoring functions, of flight mechanical models and flight simulation. a+i

Specific Expertise Tools We develop and integrate tools for system design, simulation, project management and knowledge management. Our tools are based on commercial or open source platforms. We support the evaluation, customization and integration of commercial of the shelf applications and open source (i.e. DOORS, PTC Integrity, Matlab, Simulink, Enterprise Architect, Artisan, Amesim, Easy5, DBs, Excel, Trac). Knowledge Management and Quality We make knowledge usable by methodical capturing requirements, rationales and design decisions. We combine these classical methods with smart analysis of design data and documents. This allows to apply the knowledge in new development with explicit tracing. We provide Configuration and Version Management Systems based on open source software in order to manage processes, configurations and design data. a+i

Specific Expertise Certification / Qualification We provide strategies to achieve product certification and qualification. We create evidences to comply to approved strategies. We perform independent review of design artifacts to comply to regulations and enhance design maturity. We support and perform audits. Safety & Reliability We perform Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis and Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMEA / FMECA). We design system architectures that satisfy safety and reliability requirements and trace the design to subsystems and components. a+i
