ISIS in The Middle East

Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a predominantly Sunni jihadist group, whose goal is to create civil unrest in Iraq and surrounding areas with the aim of establishing a caliphate—a single, transnational Islamic state based on sharia, Islamic Law. It grew from the ashes of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. What is “ISIS” ?

The aim of ISIS is to create an Islamic state across Sunni areas of Iraq and in Syria. ISIS is known for killing dozens of people at a time and carrying out public executions, crucifixions and other acts. It has taken over large areas of northern and western Iraq. In addition, ISIS has kidnapped many Kurds and forced many to convert to a radical Islamic belief system.

June 30, The Pentagon announces the United States is sending an additional 300 troops to Iraq, bringing the total U.S. forces in Iraq to nearly 800. Troops and military advisers sent to Iraq are there to add security to the U.S. Embassy and the airport in Baghdad, and to provide support to Iraqi security forces. U.S Involvement: Yes or No? The question remains as to how much will the US involve itself in the region again.
