Building Future Leaders through Early Childhood Development March 2012 Presented by Lynda Smith

Dinokeng Scenarios 2009  The vision for South Africa in 2020 WALK TOGETHER  Calls for active citizen engagement  Effective Government that listens  The 4 main challenges SA faces  Education  Job Creation  Health  Safety

Call to action in ECD by visionary leader How can I use the supply chain that already exists in my business to help bring about a significant change to one of the most pressing social challenges our Nation faces?

The Education Challenge

Harvard Study Using Evidence to Improve Outcomes in Learning, Behaviour, and Health for Vulnerable Children Early experiences determine whether a child’s developing brain architecture provides a strong or weak foundation for all future learning, behaviour and health.

Vision of BrainBoosters and Eureka Foundation  To make a difference to our country by equipping South African parents/caregivers to be the best primary educators they can be and help them to stimulate early brain development in their young children, thereby giving their children a great start in life during the critical foundation years.  To manage this process through enterprise development.

B-BBEE Solutions for ECD Sector Children are the beneficiaries Can be employee children Can be community children Parents take up responsibility SED Small enterprise Job creation Capacity Building ED

Corporate Wellness Solution  The world of technology has escalated our stress levels and blurred the lines between work and home.  Use our program to add back value to your staff who may be stressed about their children.  The first 7 years of life are critical for brain development, moral foundations, values, behavior and attitudes.  Help send well balanced children into the education system so that they can thrive not just survive.

BrainBoosters Program  A ONE hour training session for Parent/Caregiver once a month for 10 months per year.  For all parents of children 0-6.  R150 plus vat pm (Qualifies for BEE points).  Parents receive training and educational products to use with their children.  The brain develops more in the first 5 years of life then any other time and the parent is the primary educator using time, love and nurture through play.

Your children are My children  Parent and child in the home  Employer/Employee/Child  Caregiver/children  ECD centre to engage parents  Enterprise development in ECD sector  Capacity building in ECD sector  Skills development  Nation Building

Every child has a place in history  It is stated in the 2005 “Children’s Bill”  Institute of race relations on the state of Fathers in their children’s lives  Trevor Manual’s diagnostic overview (NPC)  Currently we have a score of 129 on the world competitive report for primary education. Out of 12 scores, our lowest. This needs to change to remain globally relevant and it starts at birth.

Lets walk together By 2030 South Africa will be ranked in the top 25 most competitive nations of the world Stewart Pennington - South Africa The Good NewsDinokeng “a place of rivers”, …all our pasts have flowed together to meet at this place and time, and all our futures will flow from here
