In 1914 people were desperate to join the army. Within four weeks over 500,000 men had volunteered to join the army Today we will find out why

Patriotism- fight for country Sense of adventure- go to exotic places Propaganda- posters, leaflets The war would be over by Christmas- a quick victory Social pressure- given white feathers accused of being a coward Hated the Germans- believed in what they were fighting for

World War One Propaganda: recruitment posters

The government used a series of propaganda posters for various reasons throughout the war. What were these 3 posters produced for? Hint what are they trying to encourage people to do!!

The government used a series of propaganda posters for various reasons throughout the war. Some were to encourage people to save food. Some encouraged people to hate the German enemy (Huns). Some encouraged men to join the army.

We will now look at 10 Propaganda Posters. Look at the posters and decide what you think their PURPOSE is (what are they trying to get people to do or think?) EVIDENCE: pull out any techniques (visuals, design elements, text, style, language use) that are persuasive. Complete the table handout as you analyze the posters.
