Test Review Questions Test 1 What is the relationship between addition and subtraction? Addition and Subtraction are inverses or opposites of one another = =5 What is the relationship between multiplication and division? Multiplication and division are inverses of one another 3 X 4 = = 4

Test Review What is the relationship between addition and multiplication? Multiplication is repeated addition = 15 5 x 3 = 15 What is the relationship between subtraction and division? Division is repeated subtraction. 12 – 3 = = = = 3

Test Review Questions to consider Why is understanding the relationship between math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division important? How does understanding the relationship between math operations help us to solve problems faster?

Test Review All of the numbers in the problems below are the same but the parentheses are in different places. Does this effect the answer? If so why? Does it matter what order we solve problems in? 3 X (4 -2) X 4 (-2 +12) 6 3 X

Ratios What is a ratio? A ratio is a comparison of one quantity to another. For example if I were making lemonade and needed to have one part lemon to four parts water the ratio would be 1:4 or ¼. DON’T CONFUSE FRACTIONS WITH RATIOS 6.RP Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.

Difference between fractions and ratios continued A 1:4 ratio means that there are 5 parts all together and one part is oil. It can be represented by ¼. This is why the context of the problem is important. ¼ as a fraction means that there are 4 parts and 25% of them are oil. If you mixed gas using a fraction model instead of a ratio would you have to much or to little oil in your mixture? Oil 20% Gas 20% Gas 20% Gas 20% Gas 20% Oil 25% Gas 25% Gas 25% Gas 25%

Ratio Convert the ratios to fractions 3:2 3/5 1:4 5:7 9:1 4:8

Ratios Percentages and Fractions Label the triangle using the following fractions as a percentage, fraction and decimal. 1/2, 1/4/1/8, and 1/16 Percentages FractionsDecimals

Percentages, decimals, and fractions Label each of the smaller areas as a decimal, fraction, and percentage of the total.

Using your diagram from the previous slide draw and fill in the following table. FractionPercentageDecimal Whole Half Quarter Eighth Sixteenth

Example conversion. Convert the following fractions to decimals and percents. 3/5 Divide the denominator into the numerator to get the decimal. 3/5 =.6 (.6 is six tenths or 60 hundredths therefore it is 60%). 3/5 =.6 = 60%
