Disaster Laws What role do National Societies have to play?  Disaster Law provides the opportunity to work alongside govt. and other partners to develop, review & implement laws for disaster management and response  The RCRC is a unique position to advocate for:  Laws to facilitate / expedite international assistance  Laws to regulate the actions of international actors  Laws to enhance community level DRR  Laws that consider / highlight the role of RCRC  Laws to allocate adequate resources at the community level

International Assistance Communities receive the right aid at the right time In line with minimum humanitarian / quality standards Non- discrimination International assistance is provided to disaster affected communities in a neutral and impartial manner Aim to meet the needs of women and vulnerable groups Education about disaster risks Communities can receive education and information bout disaster risks and how to reduce them Through education and awareness programmes Decentralization Laws can ensure that funding, roles and responsibilities are decentralized to the local/community level
