Books Dr. King wrote?  King, Martin Luther, Jr., Stride toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story  King, Martin Luther, Jr., The Measure of a Man  King, Martin Luther, Jr., Strength to Love Sixteen sermons and one essay entitled "Pilgrimage to Nonviolence."  King, Martin Luther, Jr., Why We Can't Wait  King, Martin Luther, Jr., Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?  King, Martin Luther, Jr., The Trumpet of Conscience. 1968

His Early life:  Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr. and Alberta Williams King. King's father was born "Michael King," and Martin Luther King, Jr., was originally named "Michael King, Jr.," until the family traveled to Europe in 1934 and visited Germany. His father soon changed both of their names to Martin Luther in honor of the German Protestant leader Martin Luther. He had an older sister, Willie Christine King, and a younger brother Alfred Daniel Williams King. King sang with his church choir at the 1939 Atlanta premiere of the movie Gone with the Wind.

The early civil rights movement  The American Civil Rights movement has been made up of many movements. The term usually refers to the political struggles and reform movements between 1945 and 1970 to end discrimination against African Americans and to end legal racial segregation, especially in the U.S. South.

Dr. King’s contribution:  We honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. because he showed us the way to mend those broken fences and to move on in building this land rather than destroying it. He led campaign after campaign in the streets of America and on to the governor's mansion - even to the White House - in an effort to secure change.
