Presentation transcript:

Take equipment out of the box Lay out equipment on the table Step 1. Click the colony walls together Step 2. Clip the curtains on both sides - this holds the walls together.

Step 3 Flip the colony - We need to fill the ‘underground’ part of the nest from underneath. Flip the colony upside down and place it top down inside the base (Page 7 )

Step 4 - Six temporary doors We need to cover up some holes before we fill the colony with soil and sand. This stops the soil falling into the ant chambers and the main air space. This is the tricky part Using the tweezers place one square of paper over each access hole.

Step 5. With a desert spoon gently start to add the first layer of soil. About 5 cm deep. Then add a layer of river sand. About 5 cm deep. Tricky part again. We need to place two more temporary doors. This time on the inside of the side wall.

Step 6. Add another layer of soil and then another layer of river sand until full BUT

DO NOT PRESS DOWN THE SOIL! The ants need loose soil for easier digging

Almost finished! Step 7. We need to seal the base so we can flip the ant farm up the correct way. Use the white stickers to cover the two holes Then push the ant farm into the base.

Step 8. Take off the side curtains, one at a time. Use the pipette from the top and the sides to push the doors aside in the soil.

Press the little brown plugs to the holes on the top of the ant farm The press down the top.
