Prayer – Hidden Treasure

Prayer: The raising of the mind and heart to God Required by 1 st Commandment Can be done many different ways: Talk with Him Adore Him Apologize and ask for forgiveness Ask for what we need Two forms of prayer: Vocal: Often uses a set prayer (i.e. Our Father, Hail Mary) Mental: Silent, with or without words (often more spontaneous prayer)

We need to talk to the One Who made us We should pray even when distracted or when we do not feel like praying Fighting through it to try and pray is a great show of our love for God Fighting distraction shows God is above all else God answers our prayers “Ask, and it will be given you” (Mt 7:7) He will give us what is truly what we need

We all have spiritual lives They are the sum of all we do in order to reach Heaven We need to help our spiritual lives grow Prayer

Christ instructed the Church to pray without ceasing Liturgy of the Hours is the way that the Church accomplishes this Sanctifies (makes holy) every second of the day Also known as the Divine Office Prayer of praise and petition using the Psalms and readings from scripture and the lives of the saints Priests and other members of the Church are required to pray this each day Different prayers for different times of the day Lauds, Vespers, Compline etc.

Combines vocal prayer and meditation Pray Our Fathers, Hail Marys, and Glory Bes Meditate on certain “mysteries,” occasions in the life of Christ and the early Church 4 Different sets of mysteries Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, Luminous Each set is made up of 5 mysteries
