The city has a population of spread over 236km 2, while the fast-growing urban area numbers inhabitants.

Reggio di Calabria is located on the toe of the Italian Peninsula and is separated by the second oldest city in Italy overall. The third economic center of mainland Southern Italy, it is well known as a port and university city.

Reggio was one of the most important cities in Magna Grecia, reaching great economic and political power during the 5th and 6th centuries BC under the Anaxilas government. It allowed Reggio to rule over all the Strait, including Zancle (modern Messina). Later, the polis of Rhegion reached great artistic and cultural heights with its philosophic Pythagorean school, as well as sculpture and poetry schools, from where came leaders such as Pythagoras of Rhegium and Ibycus. Later, Rhegion allied with Athens during the Peloponnesian War but in 387 BC, the city was taken by the Syracusans.

A Mediterranean climate is the climate typical of most of the lands in the Mediterranean Basin. Worldwide, this is where the largest area of this climate type is found. Beyond the Mediterranean area, this climatic type prevails in much of California, in parts of Western and South Australia, in southwestern South Africa and in parts of central Chile.

The cathedral is the largest religious building in Calabria. This major cultural and artistic region possess a number of Roman and Gothic architecture, among which, this Cathedral is a major one. This historical site is not only famous for being the seat of Bishop, but also because of its grand look.
