Science Exit Projects Using PageKeeper to Build a Library of Online Resources iLearn Science Session 8.3

Focusing Questions How can you support students that have trouble searching independently? How can you provide students with a starting place for their research? What is PageKeeper? How is PageKeeper used to collect and organize online resources?

Instruction

Framing the Session The Internet provides boundless resources. This “bounty” requires organization on the part of teacher and can often be overwhelming to students. Google: Your Typical Source

Your Typical Results Many students have difficulties finding websites with quality content that are written at the appropriate reading level.

Enter: PageKeeperPageKeeper PageKeeper allows teachers to quickly and easily create a page of Web links to manage student web use in their classrooms

A Sample PageKeeper Page Soon your page will look like this!

Teaching How can we organize the resources in our online science library? >By Unit – Earth Science, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences >By Subject Area – Rock Cycle, Water Cycle >???

Teaching Let's brainstorm other categories for an online science library.

Guided Practice Go to the PageKeeper Web site: Click on the “Register for Free” link. Create a new account

Guided Practice To edit your PageKeeper page, click on “Edit my page” under the Link Menu heading.

Other Features PageKeeper also allows you to search the pages of other educators by: >Username >Grade >Subject

Guided Practice Exit projects can take many forms. Some kids need more direction. Your PageKeeper page is a list of sites you as the teacher will direct your students to. In the Resources section of session 8.3 you will find of list of Web sites you may want use on your own page.

Work Time

Share

Today we learned how to establish a PageKeeper account and create an online science library. Now we will look at how a few of you assembled your online resources. We can also discuss the challenges you had. Review

How did we organize our pages? How might we use PageKeeper with our students? Share
