Introduction to the Microscope  Care  Parts  Focusing

Always carry with 2 hands as shown Only use lens paper for cleaning Do not force knobs Keep scope set back from edge of desk Keep objects clear of cords

Eyepiece - ocular Body Tube Revolving Nosepiece Arm Objective Lens Scan, Low, High Stage Stage Clips Coarse Focus Fine Focus Base Diaphragm (light control) Light

Carefully get scope to lab bench Turn Nosepiece to scan objective Raise stage all the way up Place the Slide on the Microscope Use Stage Clips Look into the Eyepiece (no Popeye!!) Use the Coarse Focus knob

Follow steps to focus using low power Once image is in focus, then turn the nosepiece to the high power objective Do NOT use the Coarse Focusing Knob (breakage!!) Use the Fine Focus Knob only to focus the image

Magnification VS. Resolution What does it mean to magnify? It does NOT mean making bigger! It means to make it APPEAR bigger! What is resolution? The ability to see detail – clarity…

Let’s give it a go!! Letter E lab….

A quick word about drawing in Biology…. Not everyone is a perfect artist… You WILL draw WHAT YOU SEE NOT what you THINK you see!! Mrs. Clapp’s levels of drawing skills:
