Create a persistent identifier: DOI or ARK Add object location Add metadata Update object location Update object metadata
EZID and Metadata
ARK vs DOI Courtesy of the Anaheim Public Library both can work like regular hyperlinks. both can refer to a subset or portion of a resource. both become persistent when the target URL is maintained.
ARK vs DOI Flexible Case-sensitive Special features support granularity Can be deleted Inexpensive
ARK vs DOI Established brand in publishing Indexed by major A&I citation databases DataCite policies apply Cannot be deleted More costly
Next steps for EZID Enhanced persistence support – Automated link checking – Tombstone pages Exposure for citations – Thomson-Reuters (Web of Knowledge) – Elsevier (Scopus) – OAI – GoogleScholar More metadata support – full DataCite metadata scheme – cross scheme mapping UI redesign – Activity reporting – Browse & search
