Welcome to Back to School Night Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Wilkinson Social Studies and Religion, Leadership for Social Justice

Prayer Heavenly Father, You gather us as a community tonight so that we can work in a partnership to encourage, support, and educate the young men and women that you have blessed us with. Continue to always be with us, guide us, and give us strength through the good and bad days of this 6 th grade year. Bless these parents and their children this school year. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Introduction Mrs. Bassett- Social studies and Religion Mrs. Wilkinson-Leadership for Social Justice teacher, 6-8

Serra Catholic School Leadership for Social Justice

Serra Strong A Community United in God’s Love ❖ Serra’s Leadership for Social Justice program strives to develop a student’s faith-filled life and missionary spirit. ❖ Students learn hands-on what it means to be a follower of Christ. ❖ Social Justice hopes to foster awareness in students of the the needs of those in their local community as well as our brothers and sisters of the Universal Church.

Faith Leaders ❖ Campus Ministry Leaders ❖ Mass Ushers ❖ Mass Mentors for elementary students ❖ Service Project Coordinators

Helping Hands make Serra Strong ❖ St. Killian’s Pennies From Heaven ❖ Bake Sales to support Father Marc’s Village ❖ Missionary Childhood Association

Family Life Letter On p. 19 of your back to school packets is a Family Life Participation Acknowledgement Form. Please make sure to fill this out and turn it in by next week. We will be working on Family Life throughout the school year and if your child does not have a form turned in, we will not be able to give them a book. Thank you!

Late work and Academic Office Hours This year students will not be able to call home if they have forgotten their homework. Office hours (or SOS) will take place at lunch. Each teacher will be available on a specific day for make- up tests/quizzes, and extra help on assignments. Students may attend any day, even if it is with a teacher they do not have.

Absent Work If your child is absent, we will be asking them to have 2 buddies in each class that they can or call to find out what they missed. We ask this to be their first contact. The teacher web page would be the second reference point for your child to find out the work. The teacher is the last point of contact once the previous have been attempted.

Online Homework To get to the online homework, go to the Serra home page, click on Academics, and then scroll to the Teacher Web Pages. All 6 th grade teachers are found on page 3 and 4.

Campus Ministry Campus Ministry is offered to 6 th -8 th grade students. Meetings are held in the mornings before school. Mrs. Wilkinson is the head of Campus Ministry, with support from the religion teachers of grades 6-8.
