+ About the ritual... It is a Japanese Ritual This ritual is to celebrate the Rite of Passage of 20 year olds Teenagers will enter a new “chapter” in his or her life This ritual happens every year on the 2 nd Monday in January

+ 20 year olds Japanese teenagers celebrate this ritual Seijin Shiki ritual is celebrated in the temple, City Hall, and Restaurants.

+ The purpose It is celebrated to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached the age of maturity Help them realize that they have become adults

+ The steps Step 1 The 20 year old young adults will go to borrow kimono set from relatives or rent from a shop so that they will look formal and mature and it will also respect their country.

+ Step 2 Then, they will go to the temple to get blessings from their god and get presents that represent happiness and enter a new “chapter” in their life.

+ Step 3 Next, they will go to the city hall to meet other 20 year olds and listen to a speech from their governor so that they will understand what responsibilities are needed as an adult.

+ Step 4 After that, they will celebrate their Seijin Shiki by going to a restaurant while eating traditional Japanese food that represent happiness, long levity and health.

+ Step 5 The next day, they will prepare their things that are needed to go another land to get a job

+ Step 6 They will leave their hometown and work to earn their own living so that they can be more responsible
