Project Proposals Problems? Broad reasons of proposal failures – Ambiguity of aim, lack of clarity of content – Inappropriate approach, technology or methodology to solve the problem – Lacking originality, imagination, or enthusiasm – Unconvincing confidence to complete

Project Proposal Problems? A. Project Topic- the Problem The problem is not of sufficient importance or is unlikely to produce any new or useful information. The proposed project is based on a hypothesis that rests on insufficient evidence, is doubtful, or is unsound. The problem is more complex than the student appears to understand. The problem has limited significance, or fails to fall sufficiently clearly within the general field of Computing of interest. The problem is limited in scope and at most, can only be considered an assignment. The project as proposed is overly involved, with too many elements under simultaneous consideration. The description of the nature of the problem and of its significance leaves the proposal nebulous and diffuse and without a clear project aim.

Project Proposal Problems? Cont. B. Approach, Methodology, Technologies The proposed methods, technical procedures, or tests are unsuited, in appropriate to the objectives. The description of the approach, methodology, or technologies is too nebulous, diffuse, and lacking in clarity to allow adequate evaluation and assessment. The overall design of the study has not been carefully thought out. The practical aspects of the approach have not been given sufficient consideration. The approach lacks imagination. Controls are either inadequately conceived or inadequately described. The resources the investigator proposes to use is unsuited to the objectives or is difficult to obtain. The proposed background investigation, and review of alternatives is unconvincing.

Project Proposal Problems? Cont. C. The Student proposer The student does not have adequate knowledge, skills, or experience for the proposed project. The student appears to show a lack of awareness of recent pertinent literature or technology. The student's previous achievements in this area does not inspire confidence. The student proposes to rely too heavily on supervisor support and assistance.
