Outline Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Revisions to Electronic Reserves Under Consideration

Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Faculty may place on Reserve: - One chapter or up to 10% from a book –One article or up to 10% from a journal –Any publication in which they are the sole owner of copyright –Copyrighted material may or may not be owned by Georgia Tech

Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Copyrighted material must comply with the 4 factors governing fair use: –The character of the use –The nature of the work to be used –The amount used –The effect of the use on the market for, or value of, the work Restrictions: –Course packets or anthologies of readings for which royalties have not been paid –Articles used a second semester that are less than 2 years old

Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Student authors are required to sign a “Student Authorization” form before student papers are placed on Reserve

Copyright, Licensing, Permissions and Passwords Rights holders’ permissions letters are required prior to converting audio and video in streaming media Access is password protected

Revisions to Electronic Reserves Under Consideration Effective Spring st semester: –Status quo Subsequent semesters: –Reserves staff will seek rights holder permission –Retaining materials Linking to full text databases: If our license agreement permits, we will provide a direct link into the full text database
