Lesson 7.4 Objective/Topic: To approximate square roots of non rational numbers. To classify real numbers EQ: How can you find decimal approximations of square roots?

Classifying real numbers. irrational number A rational number is a number that can be written as the ratio of two integers. An irrational number cannot be written as the ratio of two integers. Irrational numbers represent non ending, non repeating numbers.

Set of Numbers: Real numbers are classified by the following number types.

Approximating square roots.

Square some decimal numbers between 8 and 9 that have squares near 71 This method is best when calculators are not available such as Part II of the AZ Merit State Test.

ON YOUR OWN: Classify the real Number. List all that apply. Whole, Integer, Rational, Real Irrational, Real Integer, Rational Real Rational, Real
