Guava is a tropical fruit that dates back to the early 1500s in the West Indies. It was introduced in Florida in 1847, and became a familiar item within about 40 years.
Guavas are soft, sweet, and fragrant when ripe. The can be oval or round, with color varying from yellow to pink to dark red. Each fruit contains a large number of tiny, edible seeds in the center.
Guavas are rich in dietary fiber and protect the colon by reducing the risk of cancer-causing toxins from building up. They are an excellence source of vitamin C and have more than three times the recommended daily amount.
Good source of vitamin A, which is needed for growth and development of cells and good vision. Excellent source of Beta- Carotene, which protects from lung and oral cancers. Has more potassium than bananas. Potassium helps maintain good heart rate and blood pressure.
