JUSTICE

JUSTICE  SCV.03 identify the role of Scripture in ethical and moral decision-making;  PFV.01 describe the role of the Church as an institution empowered by the Holy Spirit and charged with the responsibility of the moral and ethical formation of her people;  FLV.03 apply related Church teaching to values and practices that promote or undermine relationships and the sacredness of life.  I can describe and apply the concepts of justice and injustice using a Catholic worldview.

JUSTICE “And this is what the Lord asks of you: to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6.8  Review: 1. What is justice? 2. What is injustice? 3. Who did Jesus invite to a special relationship? 4. Why might we care first for the poor & vulnerable? 5. How are original sin and Jesus death & resurrection related?

JUSTICE An encyclical is a letter, issued by a Pope, that teaches us something. Upon his retirement, Pope Benedict became known as Pope Emeritus to avoid confusion.  Father Robert Barron describes the encyclical, Caritas in Veritate issued by Pope Emeritus Benedict.   Read the introduction to the encyclical (distributed) and define key terms, identify points to consider, and what the Pope Emeritus has to say about justice, charity, and the role of the Catholic in the world.  In groups of three, compare your responses and prepare to comment to the class.

JUSTICE Key TermsPoints to Consider

JUSTICE  Consider a global issue of justice that is currently in the news and apply the following terms: Global Issue: Justice Charity Love Poor & Vulnerable
