Unit Rate Rivalry

How to Play Pair up with someone in the group to play against. For each of the 6 questions, find the unit rate. Show your processes in words and in numbers on your recording sheets. Check with your opponent and compare answers. If your answer is correct and you agree, you each score 10 points. If you do not agree, check with the answer key (on the next slide) and the person who had the correct answer scores 10 points, while the other scores 5 points. Continue this process for all 6 problems, and the Bonus Problem. The Bonus problem is worth 20 points. Whoever gets it correct first, gets the 20 points.

Our purpose together today is to: Define unit rate. Learn how to find unit rates using your own methods. Identify vocabulary that refers to unit rate. Understand the uses of unit rates. We will have a competition: girls –vs- boys! Whoever racks up the most points at the end of the competition gets an extra 10 points on today’s quiz grade!

How to score points! 5 points for presenting a method to find a solution to the problem – one boy & one girl per problem (a different boy & girl each time). 1 point for identifying vocabulary that refers to unit rate - per problem. 10 points for anyone who can define unit rate at any point throughout the activity! 10 points for the first person (boy or girl) to find a solution to the bonus round!
