+ Grammar Lesson: Transitive and Intransitive Verbs By: Amandla, Çemil, Laila & Malika

+ Transitive Verbs It’s quite simple to identify transitive verbs since they have 2 important characteristics that define them: 1. They are action verbs 2. They always have a direct object Ex: The salesclerk showed the buyer the wide spectrum of colors available for the couch he wanted to buy. The transitive verb in the sentence above would be showed and it’s an action verb whose direct object is spectrum.

+ Intransitive Verbs An intransitive verb can be identified by 2 characteristics as well: 1. It is an action verb 2. It does not have a direct object Ex.: The circumspect Christian repented at Church on Sunday. The intransitive verb in the sentence above would be repented; it’s an action verb and it doesn’t have a direct object.
