The Bible's Creation Narrative In the Light of Modern Science Part 2-A: Day Three: Dry Land by David C. Bossard 13/13/2016 9:57:34 PM

Genesis 1:9 – Day Three 9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.  "The retirement of the waters from its surface, is to reverse the ordinary processes of nature." Pulpit Commentary  "But of this we have no physical explanations... By the divine act of naming the two constituents of the globe [that is, the land and the waters], and the divine approval which follows, this work is stamped with permanency." Keil & Delitsch 2

St. Augustine of Hippo ( AD) 33/13/2016 9:57:34 PM by Sandro Botticelli 1480 Church of Ognissanti, Florence Wikipedia

43/13/2016 9:57:34 PM St. Augustine on Day Three "Now, where were the waters gathered if they had originally covered the whole earth? When some were pulled back to lay bare the land, to what region were they brought? If there was some bare portion of the earth where they could be gathered, dry land already was in evidence, and the waters were not occupying the whole. But if they had covered the whole, what place was there in which they might be gathered so that dry land might appear?" Ad. Lit. I "But if water covered the whole wide world, where would it go in order to leave some of the land exposed?" ibid.  It does not say, "And God caused the water to be gathered," or "God gathered the water." ibid. II.7.15

113/13/2016 9:57:34 PM Afterword… If My analysis of Day One and Day Three are correct… The understandings of Science and the Bible changed radically just within the past 60 years or so.. BUT the sort of change was different … The Interpretation of Science changed because of new data The Interpretation of the Bible changed because of new insight from Science … But the data (the text) did not change. … It's still, "Let there be light." … It's still, "Light divided from darkness" as a separate act. … It's still, "Waters gathered in one place." … It's still, "(Permanent) Dry land"
