KCEA 22 October 2014 (Keystone Consortium Of Educational Associations)

Background – First met in 2012 at TEA Outgrowth of PAC-TE 2012 – 2014 Strategic Plan Goal -- to bring together educational associations in the Commonwealth to speak with one voice on issues germane to K-16 education – K-16 student issues – K-16 faculty issues – Combined efforts of PAC-TE and KCEA produced a “white paper” (can be found at: te.org/public-pacte-speaks ) te.org/public-pacte-speaks

Topics addressed in our first “paper:” – Curriculum and the Whole Child – Professional Development – Assessment and Evaluation Launched at a press conference held following Spring 2013 conference Disseminated to: – Every newspaper in PA – Every member of the House Education Committee – Every member of the Senate Education Committee – Secretary of Education – Governor

– PAC-TE Goals 2014 – 2016 address continued collaboration (see page 36 of TEA Program) Goal #1 -- establish and implement policy, annual calendar, roles, and procedures for PAC-TE’s ongoing advocacy efforts in support of its mission. This includes: – Compiling issues list and sharing with PAC-TE members and KCEA contacts for additional input. – Drafting position papers on each priority issue. – Distributing position papers to PAC-TE members and appropriate stakeholders – As appropriate, visit, call, invite and e-communicate with stakeholders to discuss issues and/or invite stakeholders to Board meetings – As appropriate, request support from KCEA entities.

Goal #5 – collaborate with other educational associations in providing information and conducting advocacy activities in support of PAC-TE’s mission – Expand the number and type of participants in the Keystone Consortium of Educational Associations (KCEA) – Clarify the purpose of KCEA – Establish procedures for communications and action among KCEA associations

How should we continue? – Also, we’re asking for your assistance with student teacher assessment You’re experiences with our student teachers Quality of student teachers you’ve received Interaction with the preparation program Interaction with the supervisor

– Suggestions you have for student teacher assessment – Ways to improve Communication with the program Communication with the supervisor

The Next Few Days – Student Teacher Assessment PDE is looking for ways to assess student teachers uniformly across all preparation programs Attempting to link student teacher assessment to professional educator assessment Asking for our combined input – Two presentations at the conference from vendors edTPA – Today ETS -- Friday
