Football Game Night Heat and Humidity Action Plan

To reduce the likelihood of heat illness, a coach or administrator may alter the time and nature of practice or a contest. Athletes and officials should be prepared for such schedule changes. Heat Illness Preparation

SUGGESTED GUIDELINES Delay the start Delay the start - If possible, start minutes later than scheduled. Be mindful of travel times and weather forecasts. Turf fields are much warmer during the daylight hours. Take frequent water breaks Take frequent water breaks - Be sure to keep athletes hydrated. If necessary, game officials have the authority to mandate frequent water breaks and/or extend quarter and halftime breaks. If necessary, during breaks, have players remove helmets and shoulder pads.
