The first video game was the Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device in It was a missile simulator that used analog circuitry not digital. Screen overlays were used because graphics couldn’t be drawn.
The first video game console was the Magnavox Odyssey in It had switches on the console that allowed gamers to change the game that they were playing, turn it on or off, and it had cables connecting from the console to the controller. It only played variants of the same game with screen overlays to change how you played it.
On September 11 th 1977, the Atari 2600 was released. It had switches on the console. This is the first cartridge console where you would take the game and put it in the port on the top of the console. The games were only 4- bit. The console game with two joystick controllers, 2 paddle controllers and the game Combat – later Pac-Man.
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was the first 8-bit console. It was released on October 8 th The controller had a 4 directional-pad (D-Pad) on the right, pause and select buttons in the center and A B buttons on the right.
The Sega Genesis released in 1989 was the first 16-bit console. There are 3 Genesis models the Model 1, 2 and 3. This was also the first console to have accessories for the console. The Sega CDX played CD games and the 32X played some games at 32-bits. The controllers had a D-Pad, pause and A B C buttons.
The SNES was a console made to compete with the Sega Genesis. It was released August The console played 16-bit games. The controllers had a D-Pad, A B X Y pause and select buttons on the front and on the top there was a L and a R button.
