Presentation transcript:

The way we communicate has changed over time. The Internet has changed many aspects of our lives, including the way we communicate with each other, how we keep track of our finances, how we do research, and even where and how we buy things. Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) linked people around the world in ways that never could be imagined e.g. e- mail, video messaging and instant messaging.

How communication has changed. Communication has changed and has developed a lot over the past 30 years Here are some examples of the technology developed over the years: The internet E mail Fax Teletext and much more!

Development of the internet – where did it start. Four computers were connected together in 1969 and it was called DARPANET. Then was invented in 1971 In 1984 NSFNET was created. Then more networks were created and they were connected together to become the internet

What do I need to connect my computer to the Internet? Telephone Line with modem, Cable Modem, or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line). Software that allows connection to the Internet. Subscription to an Online Service or Internet Service Provider.

What can I do on the Internet? Exchange messages through or chat by instant messaging. Read specific information through newsgroups. Find information through the World Wide Web (WWW). Log in to computers using Telnet. Move files using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). You can also do research for projects at school or for any leisure purposes which include shopping.

Is the Internet good for me? When you use it to develop your skills needed to be successful in school and life. When you use it to help you with your school assignments and projects. When you use it to communicate good things with your friends and family around the world. You are able to access and read different information like news stories and you can do your finances on the computer and keep track of them.

The Future of ICT for people The internet is becoming more and more popular and in the future people without computers will find it hard to find information anywhere else other than the internet because nearly all information will be on the internet and not In other resources. Certain people in certain sections of society e.g. poorer people will be less informed. Women will probably be less likely to find or get a job which uses IT skills e.g. computer science.
