Minorities and STEM Education BY: ROLANDO ROMERO

Introduction of Problem  Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM)  STEM education is the key to the future  Lack of Diversity in the STEM fields  Statistics imply that major research universities are purposely filtering out underrepresented students to make room for the naturally gifted students.  College priorities are intertwined with personal gain.  High Schools need to do their part also.

Statistics

How I Relate to the Problem.  I am a freshman at UC Merced that is going into a STEM field.  I am one of the few.  I have many fears about not succeeding in the major from the low attendance of minorities in the fields.

The Solution to the Problem  Start at high school.  Better instructors.  More support for underrepresented groups.  More media.

The End  Thank you for your time.
