Bernini Italian Baroque

Bernini was a Renaissance Man Bernini was a renaissance man even though he belonged to the Baroque movement. He was a sculptor, painter, architect, stage designer and a composer. His sculpture of David shows him in action unlike previous sculptures. His actions create a sense of drama much like Caravaggio’s paintings.

Ecstasy of St. Theresa is one of Bernini’s most famous pieces. The emotions shown on the figures faces and the dramatic folds of the clothing are characteristic of the Baroque style.

Bernini also was an architect. He helped to finish St. Peter’s Basilica after Michelangelo died. He added the many sculptures and designed the interior of the church. Bernini also created many fountains around Rome. The Fountain of the Four Rivers is one of the most famous.
