Report back for Group 1 Chair: Abou Ali Rapporteur: Lerato Senoko

What data, what level, which users Different basins have different needs and are at different levels of development Decision makers, scientists, citizens

Basic data needs/infrastructure Flood monitoring/prediction system Climate change (long term forecast systems) In-situ data Historical data Models Imagery Mobile systems Spatial data Communication infrastructure

Data Sharing Data sharing between countries National data policies Mobile systems to share data and products and services within the basin Dissemination strategies on data (in situ) The member state to understand what they get out of the collaboration. Each organisation identified for the demonstration should provide its data

Partnerships Space agencies Meteorological services (national and global) Member states representative on the basin Regional organisations working and/or mandated to work on river basins by member states. Member states organisations that will participate

Capacity building Promote data sharing in workshops Scientists to manipulate data and generate products and services (joint training) Better coordination mechanisms nationally and between scientists. Better communication of the benefits of the systems to decision makers/products and systems useful for decision maker (incl. basin authorities).

Way forward Focus on demonstration project Provide all data available/needed for the demo project Demonstrate the benefits from data sharing, joint capacity building, products and coordinated communication strategies. This will stimulate national response to this initiative

Road map Raw data (in-situ), imagery, Products and services Spatial data Historical data RIVER BASIN Build capacity of scientists to use the data Better national coordination Dissemination systems and strategies Communication systems Partnerships Space agencies Meteorological services (national and global) Member states Regional organisations Other agencies Long term forecast system Data sharing
