5  Introduction to Civil Rights-  Define Civil Rights- your own definition  Find “the most powerful picture” to represent the Civil Rights Movement (in your opinion)  Justify your reasoning to why this photo is such an impactful photo

6  Find 3 photos showing “De Facto” Segregation  Provide 1 statement for EACH photo justifying WHY it is De Facto  Find 3 photos showing “De Jure” Segregation  Provide 1 statement for EACH photo justifying WHY it is De Jure  Find 3 photos showing the White Response (discrimination or protest to desegregation)  Provide 1 statement for WHAT the photo is in response to

7  This picture represents some of the negative reactions in response to integration because this man is pouring bleach into the water to try and deter African Americans from swimming in the community pool. Unfortunately, many Americans went to extreme lengths to go against integration including harming other individuals just because of the color of their skin.

8  Define each of the 5 methods of protest.  After each definition, provide an example/instance of success.  Example: Clean eating- being mindful of the food's pathway between its origin and your plate.  Instance of Success: Miranda Lambert has lost 25 pounds monitoring her food and exercise.  Provide a Video clip of an example of ONE method of protest

9  Create a timeline of TWO important individuals who made an impact in the Civil Rights Unit.  Place one influential person on the top of the timeline, and one on the bottom  ***You may NOT do MLK, Malcom X, or Rosa Parks.  Each figure needs to include 5 important events (not including their Birth or Death as a date)

10  Using the court case list provided, pick a case and find the following things:  Primary source- someone who was part of the case  Secondary source- someone writing about the case  Using both documents review and outline the case, making sure to discuss the impact of the case both THEN and NOW.

11  Using the list provided choose a current civil rights issue today and do the following things:  Link to current event, along with summary IN YOUR OWN WORDS  Who was involved, what is issue, why is it considered a Civil Rights Issue  Show similarities of current event to Civil Rights Movement  Show impact and how the nation responded to event  This can include new laws/acts in place, cultural impact, discrimination & struggles

12  Follow the calendar provided- due dates, work days are labeled. Use time wisely when given in class  Save everything you work on, take good notes.  Find UNIQUE examples to help you show knowledge on the objectives.
