Dynamic Classroom Activities for Working with Multiple Intelligences

What are Multiple Intelligences ?! A theory, which recognizes that intelligence can come in many forms. Developed by renowned educational psychologist, Dr. Howard Gardner MI Theory extends our conventional notions of the “gifted child” by outlining seven kinds of intelligence in any (one or more) of which a child may excel

Linguistic Intelligence sensitivity to the meaning of words, grammar rules, and the function of language as in writing an essay.

Musical Intelligence ability to hear tones, rhythms and musical patterns, pitch and timbre, as in composing a symphony.

Logical/Mathematical Intelligence ability to see relationships between objects, sequencing patterns, and can easily solve problems, as in calculus and engineering

Visual/Spatial Intelligence ability to perceive and mimic objects in different forms or contexts, as in miming or an impressionist painting.

Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence using the body and perceptual and motor systems in the brain to solve a problem, as in catching a ball

Intrapersonal Intelligence ability to understand and define inner feelings, as in poetry and therapy

Interpersonal Intelligence sensitivity to the actions, moods and feelings of others, as in teaching, parenting and politicking

Naturalistic Intelligence ability to nurture and relate information to one’s natural surroundings

What’s the big deal?! Teachers need to be aware and sensitive to their students’ individuality Teachers need to differentiate to meet the specific needs of every student Teachers need to maintain a dynamic and engaging classroom while incorporating listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills

What’s your strongest intelligence? Find the multiple intelligence that you believe is your strongest, and engage in a brief discussion with the others at your group…

Questions for discussion: 1) When you need to study for a test, what do you do? 2) What type of activities do you prefer in the classroom (lectures, taking notes, active participation, etc.)? 3) What strategies do you use in your personal language learning, or when studying English in your free time?

What’s in the Bag?!!

Reading Time! Language Learning Styles & Strategies Feedback! Gap Filling!

Production Time! Visual Aids! Choose one person in your group to be in charge of collecting the ideas and put them on the Wiki!
