1 TET – Teacher Eligibility Test Teacher Eligibility Test known as TET is an Indian entrance examination for teachers. It is conducted by both Central government and State governments in India (most states conduct their own TET). The test is mandatory for getting teaching jobs in government schools from Class 1 to Class 8: - Paper 1 is meant for teachers opting for Class 1 to Class 5 - Paper 2 is meant for teachers opting for Class 6 to Class 8 - TET is also conducted for secondary in some of the states About TET In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had vide Notification dated 23rd August, 2010 and 29th July, 2011 (Referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act) TET under RTE TET Advantages - It would bring national standards and benchmark of teacher quality in the recruitment process; - It would induce teacher education institutions and students from these institutions to further improve their performance standards; - It would send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the Government lays special emphasis on teacher quality The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi and the respective state governments for their state TETs TET Body Source: *http://trb.tn.nic.in/ *http://www.teachers-eligibility-test.com *http://ctet.nic.in/ *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TEThttp://trb.tn.nic.in/http://www.teachers-eligibility-test.comhttp://ctet.nic.in/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TET

2 TET – Teacher Eligibility Test Though there are minor changes in the eligibility state-wise, but the common aspects more or less remain: - Graduates (B.A, B.Sc., B.Com, B.Ed. etc.) are eligible to take the test - A candidate has to score over 60 per cent to clear the eligibility test (in certain states it is 45%, 50%, 55% as well) Eligibility for TET - The appropriate Government conducts a TET at least once every year (As noted, the months include Feb-Mar-Apr-May-Aug-Oct-Nov) - The validity Period of TET qualifying certificate for appointment will be decided by the appropriate Government subject to a maximum of seven years for all categories. 3 TET – Teacher Eligibility Test Most of these TETs are MCQ-based test i.e. objective-based test.
