 Creator: Amtrak California, sponsor: Caltrans, Amtrak, Operation Lifesaver California, & Capital Corridor.  PSA is 30 seconds long  The people in the PSA are four teenage girls that are about 17-18 years old in high school. There is diversity between the girls: white, Asian, black, and Hispanic and their clothing was up to date and they were all wealthy. They were common and real life people.  Sound techniques were onomatopoeia

 The ending has an announcer who tells the PSA’s message  The characters have a dialogue that is a conversation between all of them  The announcer is formal but the characters are informal  Certain key words were when the driver says, “Bet we can make it” and “I got this” when the train is coming

 There is a little bit of silence when the train hits the characters before the announcer starts his message and after the message is said. Those silences are there to shock the audience and to make them think about what the PSA is persuading them. They are also to scare the audience into not doing the things that the PSA intends its audience not to do.

 The pace is moderate and in real time  The shot angles show more of the driver and the passenger next to her. It also shows the car stopping at the sign before the train tracks and the train coming directly down the tracks.

 Be Track Smart, Your Life Depends on it.  There weren’t any statistics, numbers, or claims.  Be Track Smart is typed in bold black Ariel letters and Your Life Depends on it is in black italicized letters not bolded.

 Target audience is mainly teens & new drivers because the passengers and driver were all teenagers. The driver also pulled a stupid stunt of trying to beat the train, which resulted in getting hit. The driver said “Bet we can make it” and “I got this”, which is a typical thing teen drivers would say to be ‘cool’ or rebellious/risky.  The lifestyles presented were that the driver had a nice car that was modern and the teens also looked like teens today so others could relate to them better.

 Core message: Don’t try to outrun trains in your car or else you could get killed or severely injured by the train if it hits you.  Intended outcome: Less deaths and stupid/risky decisions from teen and inexperienced drivers.  The PSA wants its audience to not make risky decisions and to think about your life when you do dangerous decisions while on the road because the end message says “Your life depends on it” and to “Be track smart”.

 Producer: Amtrak California. Amtrak California is a service for Caltrans and Amtrak to travel around California. Its agenda is to protect people from getting injured or killed by trains and to make them think about theirs and others safety around moving trains.  Techniques creators used: glittering generalities & transfer

Web. 21 Oct. 2014. <http://www.wlox.com/story/18709525/pas cagoula-police-warn-dont-try-to-outrun-a- train>.  The PSA warns its viewers not to try beat trains or else you may get killed or severely injured. Train safety is to protect your life. The Pascagoula police state that a 20 year old man risked his life trying to drive past the coming train which resulted in extreme injuries.

 "SUV struck while trying to outrun train." - 13abc.com Toledo (OH) News, Weather and Sports. N.p., n.d. Web. 21 Oct. 2014.. "SUV struck while trying to outrun train." - 13abc.com Toledo (OH) News, Weather and Sports. N.p., n.d. Web. 21 Oct. 2014. <http://www.13abc.com/story/26727320/su v-struck-while-trying-to-outrun-train>.  The article contains a video showing the driver attempting to beat the oncoming train, however his vehicle’s wheels got stuck on the tracks. Luckily the train wasn’t going very fast, but the driver sustained a minor head injury.

 Appeal to fear and shock  Assertion  Peer pressure  Pacing  Camera Angle

 Appeal to fear and shock: when the driver attempted to beat the train, she didn’t make it which resulted in them screaming because the train hit them.  Assertion: the ending message tells its audience to be safe around trains because their lives depend on it.  Peer pressure: the characters get hurt or killed which makes the audience want to be safe.  The hit from the train came so fast to scare its audience and the short fading silence after the car was hit to shock them. The camera angle showed the driver and passenger as terrified for their lives as the train came by.

 The PSA made a great awareness to be safe and careful around oncoming trains. It shocked and scared the audience to see the driver and passengers get killed and/or injured when they pulled a risky decision. It made teen drivers to be more aware and attentive while on the road as well as all other drivers to be smarter and safer while driving. It gave people the realization that certain things do depend on their lives because not many think about the resulting outcome. The PSA pressures its audience into making better road decisions by showing them that they can get severely hurt or killed by an oncoming train. This results in the audience wanting to be road safe to avoid fatality.

 The fact that people’s lives depend on being safe around trains in very valid and proven because many people don’t think of the harmful possibilities of outrunning a train and result in getting harmed themselves.  The techniques really persuaded the audience not to be risky around trains because they shocked the audience to make them not want to do those things.

 The producers achieved the intended impact because the audience was persuaded to not make stupid and risky decisions and to start think about their life safety.  This PSA is a valid and effective piece because it presented what happens to people if they are not safe around trains to make the audience aware of what could happen to them if they tried to be risky.
