2 Choice Support – a leading social care charity that supports disabled and disadvantaged people to take control of their lives. BTP – main focus to ‘protect vulnerable people on the railway network’. Working together alongside volunteers to make a difference in the community.

3 BTP Mission –to work in partnership with others to help build a safe railway environment that is free from disruption and the fear of crime BTP have an implementation plan to improve how we deal with disability related harassment Forms part of our ASB Strategy

4 The Aims To protect vulnerable groups on their commute To keep them free from attack and risk of hate crime To increase independence and confidence when travelling To allow services and facilities to be accessed more readily due to increased knowledge and self esteem

5 The role You will work with your match to assist with: Knowledge of personal safety Area Mapping – how to navigate around the local area Meeting community contacts within the borough Travel Training – what to do if an unexpected event occurs How to report a hate crime

6 The Intended Outcomes Journey planning skills Practical/real time experience of journeys Knowledge on personal safety Knowledge on how to report a hate crime A record of the progress they have made An increased confidence Better access to facilities Development of social skills Friendship and support

7 Project in Practice Finding a Context for the ‘ journeys ‘ Building a relationship together Getting to know the locality together Extending Community Insight Meeting Community Safety personnel Keeping clear records of new knowledge & contacts
